Helmut Lang’s men’s and women’s Autumn / Winter 2010 collections are finally here!
Inspired by Santiago Calatrava’s architecture, creative directors Michael and Nicole Colovos designed this collection based on urban expansion. Known for their use of contrast between draping and structures, the label explored volume by adding darts and seams to control the angle of the fabrics. As for the palette, they used colours inspired by mining factories – blacks and grays, spiced up with occasional digital prints and patterns based on actual images of concrete and gravel.
For this fall, textured wools, furs, leather, silk were all mingled together to create dimension. For womenswear, this minimalist label has given us a selection from edgy stretched leather leggings, rich rabbit fur jacket to carefully printed silk mini dresses; as for menswear, intricately tailored pants, shirts and coats which are “not too classy, yet not too casual.”
Be ready to rock out in style this winter!

The ironic ingenuity of Alexander McQueen was, somewhat hauntingly encapsulated in his last works. Always bursting with emotional power and raw energy, his final show was a grand, glorious, gilded tribute to the rich tapestries, layered intricacies and handmade craftsmanship of decades past. Inspired by Byzantine art, the carvings of Grinling Gibbons, Old master paintings and religious relics, each majestic piece is brimming with masterful perfection, dramatic artistry and beautiful classicism. All patterns were cut on the stand by Alexander McQueen. Each piece is unique, as was he. The Alexander McQueen Autumn/Winter 2010 collection – the final one envisioned and handcrafted by the couture world’s much-beloved “enfant terrible” – is a fitting tribute to the purity and exquisiteness of classic romanticism. In reminisce of the genius, The LC insider can reveal that three key runway looks will be launching exclusively at Lane Crawford ifc mall in September 2010, with the main collection available at Lane Crawford ifc mall, Lane Crawford Pacific Place and Lane Crawford Canton Road. Variations of dark metallic eyes with rich shades and textures continued to dominate the runway with an up-all-night effect. Creamy black or metallic blue and silver shades covered the whole lid, creating a sparkling and dazzling look. The effect was further exaggerated as makeup artists elongated the shadow to give a “cat-eye” expression.
To create a toned down version, try a reddish purple hue or deep eggplant colour for smokey plum eyes with gradient style. At Alexander Wang and Rag & Bone, models’ eyelids were painted with reddish brown for a sculpted eye look.
As the world obsessed over vampire hype, makeup artists had embraced the look with grey colours and inky charcoal that added definition, edge and power to the overall visage, combing mystery and charm. Graphic black eyeliner and jet black eyelashes were definite must-haves in creating an elegant but punk and cool look.
Christopher Kam’s Picks for Creating This Look:
Esteé Lauder – Double Wear Zero Smudge Curling Mascara

Designers from New York and Paris sent an array of strong, coloured lips down the runway this Autumn/Winter 2010 season. With colours ranging from velvet purple to perfectly stained red, the authoritative pouts celebrated fashion, style and glamour. Classic, dramatic red lips shared the spotlight with other hues; near black violet or graphic shades of fuchsia were interesting alternatives chosen by many makeup artists. Whether touched up with a powdery matte or glossy finish, to create the statement pout required strong, bold and opaque colours.
