Chinese fashion designer Angel Chen graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2014 and gained the attention of the media when she was named one of the Top Five Graduate Designers of the Year by i-D magazine. Now based between London and Shanghai, Chen hopes to channel her romantic but rebellious spirit into a youthful collection for the new generation.
Chen has been honing her skills with Marchesa and Vera Wang upon her graduation. She often uses bold colours in her work with a romantic and eccentric character in mind.
Inspired by a troop of Highland Dressed Scouts marching in Maurice Ravel’s Bolero, her AW15 collection is a patchwork mixture of heavy wool and light cotton in bright green, yellow and red. Lurid prints are blended with gingham and tweed in earthy tones, while juxtaposing heavy and floating fabrics to create a dreamy woodland aesthetic.
