Iconic luxury department store Lane Crawford is marking the launch of its Shanghai flagship store and its brilliant edit on the new Autumn/Winter 2013 season with a unique and inspirational campaign. ‘Modern Expressions’ – is an homage to Shanghai, embracing the tastemakers and influencers who help define the style of this vibrant and diverse city.
For this one-of-a-kind project, Lane Crawford collaborated with an extraordinary collective of Shanghai’s most influential talents, inviting each one to reveal their own personal ‘World of Style’. The multimedia campaign will reach out across Shanghai, Greater China and the world through a multi-faceted media campaign, engaging us through many dimensions including a brand campaign launch book, a virtual and real exhibition and a site specific Shanghai community project.
Innovation is part of the Lane Crawford DNA and the flagship will be Greater China’s first retailer to deliver a connected commerce experience. The store offers the largest but also the best selection of fashion and lifestyle presented in visually arresting spaces that fuse fashion, art and music. Lane Crawford’s ‘World of Style’ is a complete lifestyle experience that celebrates people, creativity, exemplary service, individuality and an unswerving commitment to style.
‘Modern Expressions – Shanghai’ celebrates and explores inspired living, true beauty as well as great taste. The campaign features renowned Chinese models Liu Wen, Ming Xi and Zhao Lei alongside Shanghai influencers such as sculptor Qu Guang Ci, multimedia artist Yi Zhou, fashion designer Jin Chong Yu, entrepreneur Chen Shan, Masterchef champions Wei Han and Ice Zhang, fashion talent Nicole Zhang, art director Bing Xu, master event planner R3, models Emma Pei and Wang Zhu Xiaoyin, dancer Duan Jing Ting, socialite and writer Yang Ya Qi, CEO of Xindanwei Liu Yan and ballet dancer Tan Yuan Yuan.
Lane Crawford commissioned legendary French photographer, Patrick Demarchelier to shoot ‘Modern Expressions,’ collaborating with a creative team including stylist George Cortina and hair and makeup artist Katsuya Kamo. The images capture the eclectic cast in some of the most desirable pieces from Lane Crawford’s global fashion edit. The striking series will be displayed in-store juxtaposed with further images of the city of Shanghai and its people creating a fascinating portrait of the metropolis now. A virtual exhibition, featuring a new edit on the visuals, will also be showcased online.
In a parallel exhibition, Lane Crawford has also commissioned and curated art work throughout the store from an inspired selection of artists who were asked to explore their connection to the city in their chosen medium. These original art works offer further revelations and expressions of the city’s dynamic spirit and its unique community.
The exhibition, by artists Lu Xin Jian, Greenhouse Core, Yi Zhou, Edge, Nicole Zhang, Wang Qing, Li Li Hong, Bing Xu, Jin Chong Yu and Nam Hyo Jun, will be displayed throughout the store for the duration of the campaign as well as via a digital showcase at lanecrawford.com.
Finally, there is a very special Modern Expressions product collaboration. Lane Crawford invited internationally renowned fashion brands Emilio Pucci, Proenza Schouler, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Jason Wu, Diane Von Furstenberg and J. Crew to create an original T-shirt design representing their own individual expression of the city. The exceptional collection will be available in-store and online from launch with all profits donated to charity.

Lane Crawford, the iconic, luxury department store, will open its largest store to date in China this September, creating the first and only multi-brand fashion and lifestyle destination in the heart of Shanghai.
Set over four floors with a total of 150,000 square feet, Lane Crawford will offer more than 500 brands, the most extensive luxury and designer fashion, beauty and lifestyle brand portfolio in China. In addition, customers can expect innovative new dining concepts as well as highly personalised and unrivalled services delivered through an unforgettable in-store experience.

The online store at lanecrawford.com offers new products weekly, bi-lingual editorial content, tri-lingual style experts and customer service, as well as multi-currency payment platform that provides multiple RMB payment options.
