New Arrivals: Senz, Louis Poulsen

The weather in Hong Kong has been quite crazy lately; with one typhoon and two black rainstorm warnings in a month, are you equipped to survive this summer season?  Does your umbrella flip inside-out or rip apart under heavy rain and strong winds?  Stop looking for flimsy new umbrellas and be ready to turn heads when you stroll down the street this summer with Senz.

The asymmetrical airfoil shape umbrella from Dutch company Senz is designed to withstand winds up to 70mph for the Original version and 40mph for the Mini version; it WILL NOT invert.  The Senz umbrella effortlessly slices through the wind by turning itself into the best position in the wind and gives you perfect view from under the umbrella.  Its unique eyesavers protect your eyes from being poked by other umbrellas.  This umbrella has been tested at the Delft University of Technology and has won many worldwide design prizes

Another new arrival in Lane Crawford Pacific Place home store this week is Louis Poulsen’s AJ Lamps; commemorates the 50th anniversary of designer Arne Jacobsen’s iconic AJ Lamps, the brand has launched five new colours that are based on Jacobsen’s colour concept.

Considered one of the most influential Danish architects and designers of the 20th century and a name synonymous with Danish modernism, Arne Jacobsen’s sense of purity and simplicity is readily recognised in everything he designed.  In terms of colours, the designer preferred soft tones and hues, which didn’t attract attention.  In his opinion, the presence of an object should never stand out in any way or interfere with your experience.

The AJ series of lamps is the perfect expression of Jacobsen’s purist design mindset.  Designed for the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Copenhagen in 1960, the asymmetric conical shape of the fixture head clearly delineates the direction of the light.  In other words, you can imagine the light before it’s even switched on, because the light design is already built into the lamp.  The five new colours are muted hues and will be available in a total of five rooms in Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, celebrating five decades of sublime simplicity.

Kaleidoscope

Deco hay pinocchio hay vintage

People nowadays are swamped with tech savvy products such as the crackberry, ipad and kindle, yet we seem to have forgotten about the fun and excitement we used to have with the simplest toys that we play as kids.  Speaking of childhood toys, kaleidoscopes would definitely be The LC Insider’s favourite trend this Autumn/Winter season.  A classic and timeless piece packed with rich, colourful patterns and it has inspired Lane Crawford’s Autumn/Winter Home and Lifestyle collections.

Ranging from small pieces such as teapots and plates to large chairs and sofas, this season’s products are filled with joyful colours and interesting patchworks.  For instance, you can find the vintage quilted footstool stitched with multi-coloured prints or the Pinocchio rug featuring rainbow colours from Hay which the kids will absolutely adore.  To enlighten your bathroom, you must stock the petite yet delightful Deco Walther bathroom accessories.  The collection includes liquid soap containers made from coloured crystals, and these sparkly gems can certainly work the magic to brighten up the space.

This season’s new products are quirky and eccentric, inspired by the colours and prints of a kaleidoscope, it is a collision of different styles.  As we are saying farewell to Summer/Spring, come visit The Lane Crawford Pacific Place Home Store and embrace this vibrant and animated coming season.

For the Autumn/ Winter 2010 season, in his second collection for Versus by Christopher Kane - Versace’s diffusion line, British designer Christopher Kane took his inspiration by Bruce Weber for Versace tinted photos and used them to introduce a 1990’s Rock’ n Roll in stone washed effect, screen print on T-shirts and bags.  Kane has also recalled those 90’s Peter Lindberg shots of Linda, Naomi and co in short and full circle pleated skirts and biker leather jackets.

As a younger line, there are many pleated bouncy petticoated satin and velvet dance dresses which looked just like cupcakes in bright hues, as well as some playful takes on bondage straps and buckles for that seductive side of you. On the whole, this collection is very powerful, sensual and glamorous which perfectly in tune with mood of Versus by Christopher Kane and its young customers.

The Versus by Christopher Kane Autumn/Winter 2010 collection will soon be available at Lane Crawford ifc mall and Lane Crawford Pacific Place.
