LANE CRAWFORD INVITES CHRISTOPHER SHARP AND GILES DEACON TO HONG KONG

Lane Crawford is excited to announce that The Rug Company, the leading purveyor of contemporary handmade rugs, has collaborated with champion of witty British fashion, designer Giles Deacon. Known for his bold prints and sophisticated, pop culture references, Giles has conveyed his vision into interiors for the first time with three handmade rugs. With an unusual metal theme, the ‘Sentinel’, ‘Lavaliere’ and ‘Libertine’ designs are highly decorative and glamorous, with a sexy, modern twist. Elegantly irreverent, these rugs exemplify the subversive aesthetic of Giles. This May, Mr. Christopher Sharp, CEO and founder of The Rug Company will make a personal appearance together with the British designer, Giles Deacon, at Lane Crawford Pacific Place home store to present this innovative collection.

The ‘Sentinel’ rug is typical of Giles’ ability to create elegant patterns from unexpected motifs. The delicate geometric pattern is actually an oversize wire-fencing motif repeated across the surface of the rug and highlighted in lustrous silk. Depicted against a sky of soft blue wool, the stylish colour tones and luxurious textures create a thoroughly modern piece of design.

The large-scale chain design of the ‘Lavaliere’ rug demonstrates Giles’ whimsical approach to proportion and scale the hard metallic aesthetic of the pattern is balanced using soft colours and neutral tones. It is woven in sophisticated grey silk on a textured pale background, creating a dramatic yet cool design.

‘Libertine’ is Giles’ strongest statement, depicting ropes of sharp studs, all hand woven in fine aubusson. The metallic threads of this bold design enable it to shimmer and sparkle like the cold metal it depicts. Using the intricate, ancient craft of tapestry ensures that the clean lines of motif are executed to perfection.

Giles says of the collection, “As this is my first venture into interiors I wanted to bring together quality and a sense of sophisticated subversion. These designs are not what you’d expect for rugs, yet they work really well as elegant patterns. I love how the softness of the wool and silk yarns contrasts the harsh metal of the designs, and transforms them into something warm and alluring. Bringing together two fashion forces that unites the best of Hong Kong and New York

Lane Crawford celebrated the exclusive collaboration with Opening Ceremony with a fun-filled exclusive cocktail yesterday, April 14, 2011 at Lane Crawford ifc mall, which has attracted Hong Kong’s die-hard Opening Ceremony fans as well as some of the city’s most fashionable crowd.

Kicking off Spring in a fresh and energetic style, Lane Crawford was transformed into a conceptual retail extension of the New York cult-retailer Opening Ceremony replete with inspired visual displays such as a New York street scene, a French flea market, and a tribute to Broadway.  Exciting must-have products and assortment of celebrated designers and artistic collaborators were featured throughout the store to further stimulate customer’s senses.

To further highlight the innovative collaboration, Opening Ceremony’s renowned co-founders, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon together with style icon and renowned actress Chloë Sevigny, who created an exclusive collection with Opening Ceremony, made an appearance at the cocktail at Lane Crawford ifc mall. Fashion fans were excited to meet the celebrated designer and actress in person. 

Music by DJ Miss Yellow set the tone at the cocktail with an ultra-cool vibe. A selection of gastronomic delights was served at the food stations and delicious cocktail sponsored by Belvedere Vodka was served. Lane Crawford ifc mall was turned into the ultimate party destination with Café Costa transformed into a pop-up disco with pole dancers performing, and with fun-filled programmes such as b-boys battle and juggling performance throughout the night.
