A platform for bridging East and West, Wai Yin and Dave, Schoeni Art Gallery’s sister company, launches a new collection of furniture Orme Cinesi, featuring a fusion of Chinese tradition and contemporary Italian design.
The project started in Hong Kong at Schoeni Art Gallery where it was decided to use contemporary Italian design to modify and enhance a collection of classical Chinese furniture. This collection responds to the need of modern cosmopolitan lifestyle in terms of aesthetics, functionality and ecology. The concept is to modify and modernise traditional Chinese furniture, using the genuine antiques’ wood material and updating the design by introducing contemporary industrial materials, such as stainless steel or acrylic resins.
The project is a collaboration between Wai Yin and Dave and Cristina Cappa Legora together with a group of well known contemporary Italian designers. This first collection is the creation of Francesco Meda. The forms are an original variation from his style, as the up and coming Italian designer reinterpreted the classical Chinese antiques. This first series bears his name, the ones to come, designed by other Italian contemporary designers will also be named after each artist involved.
While the simplicity shared by both Chinese antiques and contemporary Italian design is at its
core, the collection is designed for people who are passionate about artworks and their interiors. Each piece is unique and thus a treasurable collector’s item.
Retail ranged from HKD24,000 to HKD32,000, Orme Cinesi furniture collection is exclusively available at Lane Crawford Pacific Place homestore and Lane Crawford ifc mall.
